Sociological Experiment In Scotland
By: chris | August 22nd, 2008This a fantastic little video made by curious people in Edinburgh to see how the masses react to over a dozen unattended footballs left on the street. One which they should repeat many times over. In fact, they should do one in every major European city to see who steals them the fastest, making them Europe’s biggest thieves. Bet in Moscow, roughly 30 seconds after the balls are dropped, an unmarked van full of masked men wielding automatic weapons and smelling of cheap vodka fires them into the back, then drives off like they’re auditioning for the chase scene in the next Bourne movie.

I thought it was interesting that most of the people that took balls were children, although sometimes the balls were given to them by their parents.
Still, people are like sheep: all that had to happen was for one person to pick up a ball and walk away for everyone else to follow his/her lead.
I also thought it was telling that really only the men played with the balls.

Not to be picky or condone theft, but… how is it *stealing* if the balls are just there lying around with no owner? Not too surprising to see all the balls gone after a while.
For it to take less than 6 minutes though, now that is pretty astonishing. :]
