Some Day there will be a Fetus Soccer Academy

baby-soccer.jpgMan, the 2030 World Cup can’t get here soon enough. Between the 3-year-old wunderkind in the UK and the promising crop of 18-month-olds in the United States, the tournament should feature an awesome display of talent.

We can thank people like George Edeline for our good fortune. He is a coach at a soccer programs in Georgia that works with kids as young as 18 months old and he is always on the lookout for new talent.

“Usually it takes me about 10 minutes,” he said. “I’ll tell the parents after the first session, keep an eye on him, and make sure he doesn’t get a coach who is too demanding.”

Edeline initially thought 18 months is too young for soccer. “I started a program for pre-schoolers, not toddlers,” he said.

But about two years later, after constant pestering, he gave in to parents and expanded his program to younger kids. Now, he’s saying “no” to parents of 14- and 16-month-olds.

It is about friggin’ time parents in the United States got their priorities straight. Kids shouldn’t be allowed to be potty trained until they can kick properly with both feet.

  • I would totally laugh at this if my 20-month-old hadn't asked me after dinner this evening to "play soccer ball Daddy." That's enough for me!

I'm enrolling him in the Tom Emansky, err Suzuki Method Camp, err George Edeline Academy for the Soccertorial Arts.

It is a tough life when you can't make the cut after 10 minutes when you are 2. At least there is always baseball and being able to count to 10 to fall back on.
