Some Days You Really Do Not Get The Luck
By: Rob | September 19th, 2009
Meet Juan Manuel Olivera. His week has been worse than yours. He’s currently recovering in hospital, because not only was he knocked out cold during a match for Universidad de Chile against O’Higgins but the Ambulance that he was in crashed.
He clashed with the rival goalkeeper in the game, and the goal-a-game striker was taken to a clinic for tests and he regained conciousness on the way. He was told he was ok but should go to a hospital as a precaution, and on the way that’s where the ambulance crashed.
Luckily he has a sense of humour about the situation it seems. His team doctor said:
He was a bit shocked at first but he has taken it all with a dose of humour. He will have to rest for around a week and after that he can start training again
It reminded me of some other mad injuries.
Because it means that Olivera can join the ranks of crazy injuries. Dave Beasant arguably still leads the way, when he dropped a glass of Salad Cream on his foot and smashed glass in his toe.
Steve Morrow might have been a bit miffed, when celebrating the League Cup Final win with Arsenal, he climbed up on Tony Adams shoulders. The England defender promptly dropped him, and Morrow missed the rest of the season.
David James and Rio Ferdinand both caused themselves injuries watching TV – James strained his back while trying to change the channel, while Ferdinand strained muscles in his leg putting his feet up on his coffee table.
Paulo Diogo caught his wedding ring on the fencing around the crowd celebrating a goal for his team. Ouch.
Any more classic injuries?
