Some Q & As With Revs Blogger Dan

By: Laurie | March 7th, 2008

Here’s part four in our “Meet the MLS Bloggers” series. Dan Chase is new to the Offside and blogs on his beloved New England Revolultion. Stop by his Revolution Offside to say hello.

My favorite answers from Dan? His favorite non-US team is either Romania or Iraq. And he likes Red Bean ice cream. (I’m reserving judgment here before saying ewww.)

Favorite team besides the one you blog on? Tottenham Hotspur or maybe the UMass Minutemen

The player you’d most like to kick a ball around with ?
Jurgen Klinsmann (or is it Jay Goppingen)

Favorite ice cream? Red Bean (the kind you can only get in Chinatowns all over the world)

Favorite on-the-field formation (4-4-2, 4-3-3, etc.)? Catenaccio, I like a strong defense and midfielders that can run forever.

Cats or dogs? Dogs (but not little yippie or giant ones – that perfect middle size)

Favorite non-Offside soccer blog (because obviously we’re your favorite) Solo Tigres (solotigres.com) So I can practice my Spanish!

Last DVD you watched American Gangster – it was a tough movie, but good nonetheless.

Who’s going to win the MLS Cup this year? Honestly, I have to say the New England Revolution

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? An engineer, but I learned right quick that engineering isn’t for me…

If you had to keep your eyes locked on one position (e.g. striker, goalkeeper, etc.) for an entire game, which would it be? Midfield – they attack, they defend, they run aimlessly – the best of everything, really.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know. Sometimes, I secretly wish that the Yankees win the AL East Pennant. Because Sox fans can be obnoxious. (I’m from Massachusetts, if you didn’t know!)

The most games you’ve ever watched in a twenty-four hour period? Probably eight. Then I stopped getting Fox Soccer and that ended that. It was glorious while it lasted though. When I wasn’t watching games I was watching ‘Football Asia’ and other shows about soccer.

Morning person or night person? Night, I’ve always been a night owl. I can’t bring myself to get up for class some mornings. Sometimes my grades reflect it, unfortunately.

Favorite national team outside of your own? Either Romania or Iraq. Romania has a few world beaters, and a few no namers. It makes them so fun to watch! And Iraq was so fun to watch during the Olympics a few years ago. Younis Mahmoud and Nashat Akram need to sign with the MLS!

Favorite TV show to watch in reruns? M*A*S*H would’ve made staying home sick as a kid so much more palatable.

Favorite current player on any team? Lee Young-Pyo. He is my ideal left back. He can run forever, looks to pass rather than hold onto the ball, and is technically proficient, but not overly flamboyant.

Favorite comfort food? Kale soup with extra linguica, like my grandma made (and my father still does).

“Gruesome Soccer Injuries” video. Would you watch or not? Obviously. Injuries in soccer are like fights in hockey.

Favorite sport or physical activity to participate in? Aside from intramural soccer, my favorite activity would have to be hiking.

Best game you’ve ever seen? New England v New York. Semi-finals two years ago? When Khano Smith scored in the 70-something minute and Youri Djorkaeff couldn’t save the Metrostars because he was so old. That’s why you need to sign up and comers rather than old timers, New York!

Best pet you’ve ever had? I’ve only had one, she’s Black Lab-Beagle mix. But she’s the size of a Beagle and looks exactly like a Lab puppy. My brother got Maxine when I was ten when my he asked for: a dog leash, a dog bowl, dog food, etc., but no dog for Christmas. My parents didn’t get the hint – they bought him all the paraphernalia but no dog. Much crying ensued… eventually we got a dog.

Favorite goalkeeper ever? Rene Higuita, the Columbian who made ‘the Scorpion Kick’ famous. Google this guy, seriously.

What else would you like to say about yourself? My name is Dan Chase. I’m from a little town in Central Massachusetts, just North of Worcester, when I’m not at school. I’m a student at UMass, where I’m studying archeology, and I have an interest in how soccer players migrate.

Matt, Dayton is good, I’ll give you that. Really good. But did you see the way we dismantled La Salle? 100-63! It’s going to be a tight one.

Ethan, I’m a Spurs fan, he plays for the Spurs… do you see any correlation?

Any thoughts at all on Arsene Oka? 24 y/o midfielder from Ivory Coast. Apparently he made a handful of reserve game appearences and one or two first team appearances for the Revs last season. The Timbers just signed him today, and I’m a Timbers fan (hi, Laurie!), soooo… just thought I’d ask.

    Good luck with the blog.

Yay for the UMass mention, and the red bean ice cream (which you should really try sometime, Laurie). :)
