Some Video of that Columbus-West Ham Kerfuffle
By: Laurie | July 23rd, 2008I love YouTube. I knew it was only a matter of time before we got to see for ourselves the hoolie porn actions of the fun guys at the previously discussed Columbus-West Ham friendly.
FYI, gents? There’s nothing ladies find more attractive than drunken guys duking it out. Especially when they’re wearing jerseys of a team from a country where they’ve spent approximately three days, total.
Truly. I’m serious. Would I lie to you?
In other exciting West Ham Does North America news, Canadian security will be on the lookout for those evil West Ham rowdies.
Security guards at tomorrow’s Major League Soccer All-Star Game in Toronto will closely monitor a small section of West Ham United supporters, after the English club’s fans tussled with local partisans during a match in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend.
“We’re going to be paying very specialized attention to the West Ham supporters group,” said Bob Hunter, executive vice-president of venues for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of Toronto FC, which is hosting the game.
“We’re not treating it lightly,” he said. “We talked to the people in Columbus.” [...]
At tomorrow’s match between West Ham and the MLS All-Stars – including English star David Beckham – staff will be looking for anything “that is unruly behaviour – excessive profanity, anything that could be seen to be out of the ordinary,” Mr. Hunter said.
Yes, it’s true. Welcome to Toronto, the Happy Place where excessive profanity is out of the ordinary.

For your information – and “seeing” as you evidently have VERY poor eyesite any trouble caused was by Columbus Crew “fans” especially that big, folically-challenged lumux – who wouldn’t last five minutes at Upton Park – AND most of the WHU supporters were US based. Other than that your journalistic skills are close to being half correct. Fancy a job on ‘The Sun’?

“Kerfuffle” is a word we as a people should be using more.

Stelios, all media reports are saying that you are partially correct. As I said in my earlier post, the dust-up was reportedly caused by Americans, but by Americans in West Ham jerseys. I’m not sure what I wrote that could have given you the impression I thought otherwise.
Not that the Crew fans were innocent, as you can see in the video. But according to all of the first person accounts I’ve read, the brawl itself didn’t start until drunken West Ham “fans” entered the Columbus Crew supporters section looking for trouble.

Martin, I believe we should start a club: The Bring Back Kerfuffle Society.

CSC Security are to blame here. While they are kicking crew fans out for streamers and fans are being put in headlocks for having an umbrella for their pregnant girlfriend, drunk opposing fans are able to make it ten rows deep into crew fans before being noticed!
ACAB!

Maurie, my apologies, I misread this:
“FYI, gents? There’s nothing ladies find more attractive than drunken guys duking it out. Especially when they’re wearing jerseys of a team from a country where they’ve spent approximately three days, total.”
as West Ham fans spending three days in the US and not US fans of West Ham having spent three days in the UK (always welcome to join the couple of million Hammers in and around London).
Must admit to being sorely miffed at the press coverage, generally…it’s all been a bit of a kerfuffle, s’pose!

Ah, yes, I can see where that could have confused someone.
No hard feelings — if I were a genuine West Ham fan from London, I’d be a bit miffed at the “Psychopathic English Hooligans Invade America” press coverage also.

Did everyone else not notice how Stelios put the word “seeing” in quotes? Brilliant! I tip my hat to you, sir. Com-e-dic gen-i-us. I hope you meant it!

My mate was at that game. It was his first ever live match that involved an English team. He was really excited, and by the looks of things he wasn’t disappointed.
That said, it was all a bit of a much of a nothingness. He should come over and watch a game in England!

kerfuffle is used quite alot in England, thanks to the ‘hilarious’ comedy stylings of Little Britain.
