Soundoff: Which Footballers Share Your Birthday?

birthday_candles While typing up a post about Bayern Munich’s comedy birthday gift to Franck Ribery last week, I noticed that the Frenchman has the same birthday as my mum. Obviously I didn’t share this with her, mostly because I didn’t want to explain the concept of Franck Ribery to someone with no interest in football. So I decided to check which footballer or footballers I shared a birthday with instead, and after a very quick Google was pleasantly surprised to find it was Ryan Giggs. Respectable, statesmanlike Ryan Giggs.

I don’t know if you believe in astrology or not, but I got to wondering whether our shared birthdays meant Mr. Giggs and myself have anything else in common. Seems mostly not. He’s Welsh, I’m English. He’s left footed, I’m right footed. In fact my left foot only performs very basic functions like preventing me from falling over, and even then it doesn’t have a 100% success rate. Giggs has won the Champions League twice and the English Premier League 11 times. I’m lagging behind a little. Seems when it comes right down to it the only thing we have in common is which day of the year we celebrate getting older. That, plus number of successful World Cup qualification campaigns. Zing.

But now it’s time for the the obvious question: Which footballer or footballers do you share a birthday with?
