Soundoff: Your Favorite Kits.
By: chris | July 9th, 2009
Yesterday’s delve into the maniacal madness behind Lorient’s new kits brought about a discussion to some of our favorite kits. And with football desperately trying to work its way into your wallet on an annual basis, it’s not really easy to weed through the thousands and thousands of choices. The sponsorship contracts typically run for a few years so you either find your team with a good batch or you find yourself still donning the shirt of an icon who has by this time signed for your direct rivals while saying that you don’t care when you really do.
My personal selection is the 02-03 Auxerre strip made by Kappa (up there), leading one to believe if France & Italy could work together they’d take over the footballing world. This “batch” ran for a few years – back in the day when Djibril Cisse was boss – and the away from 03-04 wasn’t too shabby either. (They’re now onto some strange asymmetric uhlsport Airness concoction.)
That home kit is incredibly simple – almost overly simple. Essentially a white t-shirt with light blue seams, two logos and the giant PlayStation 2 ad across the front. The ad itself might even be the most important part, as it’s also plainly simple and runs with the shirt’s theme and color design. And it doesn’t hurt that the Kappa logo is one of the best in the biz.
Of course the problem itself with this shirt is that if you liked it enough to buy it, you needed to supplement it with at least two personal trainers and a liposuction. Those who’ve warn Kappa know precisely what I’m talking about. For those who haven’t…it makes spandex feel like it blouses. Suffice it to say, they’re only for a certain demographic.
Laurie was also kind enough to offer up hers – one which should leave everyone feeling shocked and dismayed. It’s…the 2006 France World Cup strip.

A nice strip no doubt, but something says this was the frame and the canvas was…well, the canvas was Zizou.
And now it’s your turn. Here’s a free link to Google Images to get started, and make sure you report back.

Current edition is good too, definitely grown on me – great with white shorts or navy: http://trygol.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/new_usa_.gif

loved the Milan kit when they won their 16th Scudetto in 1999: http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9RQP4ki3A30/SWbSIjVMKgI/AAAAAAAALHc/qi3jVNtDFpY/ACMILAN_98-99_HOME.jpg
and also when they won the 17th scudetto in 2004: http://www.subsidesports.com/uk/images/product/large/ACMilanHSSPlayers0304.gif
Lately I haven’t liked the Milan kits at all. Which is why I haven’t bought one since 2005.

I second Erik. The red cross of Milan on a white field was stylish and iconic.
I hate to admit it, but I like this year’s Juve away jersey.

Really Johonna? It’s too boring to me. Grey, woohoo, we mixed black-and-white. I bet we’re going to have to wear a lot of our 3rd kit.

I also liked the kits Kappa made for Brescia when Baggio was around:

I also like the iconic white “V” that Brescia has always had on their kits:

I think that Juventus’s pink strip from a few years back was great. However, the Newcastle away kit for this coming season takes the cake. http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/jun2009/3/6/newcastle-kit-235537085.jpg
