Spartak Fans In Trouble For Sheep-Lovin’ Accusations
By: chris | April 9th, 2009
As has been said time and time again, football fans are nothing if not creative. Or was it cruel? Or that children are cruel? Probably some combination of the two in this case.
Spartak Moscow fans – not exactly known for being angels, including participating in what became a legendary YouTube fight video between ultras (after the jump) – got in a spot of trouble and one fan arrested for a banner of questionable taste on the weekend. In the process producing a protest from Spartak Nalchik’s suits along with one of the greatest opening lines to a football news report in recent times.
The general director of Spartak Nalchik has lodged a complaint with the Russian football authorities over an obscene banner suggesting his team and its fans enjoyed intimate relations with sheep.
I’ll wager the beat writer absolutely loved this assignment. How does one make sheep-lovin’ sound tasteful? I suppose “intimate relations with sheep” is about as good as it gets. (That’s not what I meant.)
One fan was arrested for the giant banner and another two are being sought as Russian football tries to gain some sort of civility with instances like this, though slightly less comedic, all too frequent in a league which is growing rapidly in quality on the pitch. If they can tame matters off the pitch – Europe beware.
The viral of the Spartak v Zenit ultras fight a few years back:
I’d say accusations of beastiality are pretty tame by comparison.

“So what did your son get arrested for?”
“Oh, nothing really. It was just a little bestiality banner.”
