Spartak Moscow Pitch Invader Shows the Pros How to Take a Penalty

By: Daryl | September 21st, 2009

UPDATE: Seems Rob beat me to posting this video over the weekend. Ah well, now we get to enjoy it twice I suppose.

Every fan dreams of stepping up and scoring for their club. Few ever get to do it. Mostly due to the fact that they are not professional footballers.

But one man appears to have found a loophole.

As Spartak Moscow’s Brazilian midfielder Alex was preparing to take an equalizing spot kick against Saturn Moscow on Saturday, a well-fed fan saw his moment, ran on and struck the penalty into the bottom left corner. He even brought a mate along to celebrate with him.

Obviously fan taken penalties don’t count, but Off the Post found video of Alex taking the actual penalty, then having to retake it, and finally scoring by putting the ball almost exactly where the fan did.

Seems Spartak Moscow should have kept that fan (and maybe his mate) in the game though, as Saturn went on to win 2-1.

I agree with Rami, I think it's pretty clear that he was giving a Nazi salute. The possibility that he was is increased by the fact that Spartak Moscow have a large neo-Nazi following in Russia.

Anyone in America see Woody Paige talking about this on Around the Horn today? Said it showed what a weak sport soccer is. Apparently us fans always talk about how hard penalties are, and then this guy showed us how easy it really is.
  • Laurie... I was thinking the same thing. These teams play in the Champions League??? No wonder the same teams end up in the Champions League finals.
  • What a guy! Russian security is a joke, and to think the US was engaged in an arms buildup with these morons!

I am never a proponent of this sort of thing. But that said, this seemed pretty harmless and funny. The timing was perfect -- seemed like none of the players knew he was coming until he took the shot. And it was a good shot. And Rami, yes, I think you're imagining the salute.
  • Am I imagining this or did said pitch invader also give a nazi salute during his celebration?
  • P.S. Their attendance looks like a New York Red Bulls match.
  • And he's left-footed, too. Sign the guy!
