Streaker Smackdown
By: Martha | January 9th, 2008Don’t let that cuddly outfit fool you — the Burnley Bee can more than hold his own when push comes to shove, as this unfortunate streaker found out. Escaping a steward is one thing, but getting away from the mascot is quite another. (Note: The video features a streaker and his bits, and therefore is NSFW.)

The slo-mo just makes the video. Excellent production values.
And…ick.

I also posted about this on The Run of Play today. One of the funniest things I found in reading up on the background of the tackle is that afterward, there was a small but passionate call for the mascot to be banned from future matches because the force he used was “excessive and unsafe.” Won’t someone please think of the children?
Also, if you look closely at the streaker’s backside (and really, why wouldn’t you?), you can see that he’s written “2-0″ across his cheeks to commemorate the score of the match. Almost better than the video itself is the thought of him trying to talk a friend into escorting him to the bathroom with a Sharpie. Or, I don’t know, somehow writing it on there himself.

Brian, I bow before your blogging prowess — research into the Streaker Taken Down by a Bee, damn! Definitely worth it, clearly, because the banning push is completely incredible. Out of Control Mascots: The Scourge of the 21st Century.

What an awesome takedown! And to the people saying the mascot used excessive force, the streaker got up just fine. No blood, no foul!

The song by “The Offspring” is a nice touch as well.
