My all time favorite instance of a sports interview gone wrong: 2001, the Arizona Diamondbacks have just won an NLCS playoff game in extra innings. Second baseman Tony Womack, who delivered the game winning hit, is about to be interviewed by Tim McCarver. Womack is standing on the field wearing headphones, being embraced by a middle aged woman, as McCarver begins the interview from the booth. McCarver: "Tony, congradulations! Is that your mother down there with you?" Womack: "No Tim, that's my wife."
