

That’s One Way to Defend against a Free Kick

There is nothing fun about being in a wall. Just this past weekend I watched a player literally get knocked out after a free kick met his face. With that outcome always being the possibility, you can hardly blame Aalesund’s Gustave Bahoken for taking matters into his own hands against the dreaded Lyn Oslo in Norway.

A Zaire player did the same thing against Brazil in the 1974 World Cup. ‘A moment of African innocence’ they called it.

He was probably trying to pick up his 5th yellow. I’ve seen that done before when a player wants to miss the next game.
