The Chinese Tom Henning Øvrebø (That’s Ballack’s Buddy From Chelsea v Barca)
By: chris | July 28th, 2009Just yesterday Richard Scudamore, head of the Prem, sat himself in front of a bevy of reporters, not at all influenced by the fact that he was on a block-building mission in Beijing, and touted the Chinese Super League as the new blossoming world power – the one which may come to rival Europe’s heavyweights in the future.
“It is these building blocks, together with the drive and ambition of the Beijing Football Association, which, in the future, could see China rival England as one of the world’s footballing powers and the Chinese Super League competing with the Premier League.
Then that must make Tianjin Teda the new Chelsea.
Much like the happenings during that not at all controversial match between Chelsea and Barcelona, the players disagreed with a decision the referee made. Slightly. So they banded together and decided the best way to voice this frustration was to start a riot and chase Mr. Referee off the pitch. And by chase it wasn’t “he casually blew full time and moseyed off the pitch”. No, he had to put on his trainers and run like Usain Bolt.
But perhaps what’s more ridiculous is there’s no debating the foul which caused the uproar. The Tianjin player kicked and stomped his opponent while on the ground. That’s at least two straight reds and potentially even a purple nurple for good measure.
Of course, it probably didn’t help that Mr. Referee had red-carded two other Tianjin players previously, sending them down to a pretty unmanageable eight.
But still, this only confirms the Chinese Super League as the world’s premier martial arts-football hybrid – and this from a supposedly burgeoning super power. It’s a fucking disgrace, I tell you.
