The English Premier League will be less Fashionable next Season
By: Bob | May 2nd, 2007
I learned a couple of things while piloting the ship at World Cup Blog. I learned that I could conceivably live on nothing but German chocolate and beer for the rest of my life and I would be content. I learned that my effectiveness as a liveblogger only increased after each beer…or at least I convinced myself that this was true. I also learned that football fans are more concerned with fashion than any other sports fans out there.
A mere tweak to a football kit is enough to send football fans to the message boards where they debate the virtues of the new look. It is understandable, of course. If you are going to support a team you want them to look like something other than rodeo clowns. If you are going to shell out a bunch of money for gear you want it to be something that won’t embarrass your loved ones.
As the final chapter on the English Premier League season approaches, fans are already looking forward to what their teams will wear next season. EPL Talk has it covered like white on rice with pictures of the 2007/08 Everton, Blackburn and Botlon kits. Nothing remarkable about the lot of them.
The one that does stand out is the Arsenal away shirt. I have never been confused with being a fashion expert but is it just me or are those shirts particularly hideous? It reminds me of something that you would see in a bowling league.
My favorite comment about them on the Arseblog:
Maybe this is a deal sweetener for Ribery. Wearing it will make his face look comparatively beautiful.

That shirt belongs on a softball field.

That’s a pretty poor effort by Nike, can’t decide if its worse than this Adidas version from the early 90s.

Ummm, call me crazy but that doesn’t look pukeworthy, though not impressive either.
