The Greatest Goalkeeper Goal
By: Bob | November 9th, 2006
The folks over at 101 Great Goals have a link today to the video of the goal scored by Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia against Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Cup last week. Amelia came all the way up the field to score to score two minutes from time to rescue Livorno from the jaws of defeat. The Partizan defenders appeared to be in a state of comatose during the play.
My favorite goal scoring goalkeeper is the one and only Rogerio Ceni, but even his feats with his feet can’t top what I think is one of the great moments in football history. In May 1999, Carlisle United was playing Plymouth Argyle in the final game of the season. Carlisle United needed to win to avoid relegation to Conference football. With the score tied 1-1 and with just ten seconds remaining, the journeyman Carlisle keeper Jimmy Glass pushed all the way forward into the box during his team’s corner kick. The classic video below shows what happened next.
