The Joy of Football

By: Bob | February 5th, 2007

Some days the football world is so discouraging. Crowd violence in Brazil, a stadium ban in Romania and the continued uncertainty in Italy after an unnecessary tragedy – ours is not a perfect world and football is no different. Fortunately it is the sport itself that can help us to overcome tough times. The reason we care is the sport, as imperfect as it may be. The above video – best viewed with the volume turned up – shows one of those magical moments in football. Regardless if you love, hate or indifferent towards Inter Milan and Serie A it is a reminder of how great the sport can be. This game, by the way, also brought a special joy to a punter in Berkshire who probably has renamed his firstborn child Alvaro Recoba.

As much as this pains me, as a Sampdoria fan from way back, the passion of the commentator (and a touch of dramatic opera) makes this a joy to watch and listen to.

Roberto Mancini played so many games for Samp, I wonder how he feels about gutting his former team.
