The Kasabian Guitar Hero Freestyle Footballers: Making Viral Video Good Again

Remember how last year we were complaining about viral football videos. About how they’d jumped the shark because it was all CGI and lies. Well, we take it back.

The latest viral I’ve seen has a commercial interest, in that it’s designed to promoted English indie band Kasabian’s new single “Underdog”. But it’s also absolutely brilliant. Basically, it’s five freestyle footballers (including Woody & Kleiny) playing an improvised version of Guitar Hero. While normally you’d press the little keys on your plastic guitar, these guys play the game by striking footballs at boards on the wall.

Video of exactly that happening after the jump…

[thanks to Chris H for the tip(!)]

Love it. I especially love it because it’s all real and because they sort of fail at first but then get better. So it’s the exact opposite of Ronaldinho hitting the bar with the aid of several computer graphics people.

If there’s any doubt about how much work went into this, watch this “behind the scenes” video where they explain all…

And I can't take credit for it either. It was sent to me by Jebinho (aka Jeb C).
  • I absolutely love this, first saw it on Unprofessional Foul.

Which reminds me, Ronaldinho should've taken that CGI team with him to Milan. He'd be a goalscorer for sure!
