The Luis Figo to MLS Rumors just won’t die
By: Bob | June 7th, 2007
I’m starting to believe that we will spend more years talking about Luis Figo possibly moving to Major League Soccer than we will see him actually ever playing in the United States. LA Galaxy boss Alexi Lalas did his part today to keep the speculation alive.
Talking to the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias, Lalas said:
‘We know that Figo is on the market and we will follow the situation very carefully.
‘If the player were interested in experiencing a spell in the United States we would be ready to do anything to sign him.
‘The MLS’ main objective is to allow our league to become one of the most important in the world.’
Pairing David Beckham with Luis Figo in the same midfield for the LA Galaxy would certainly help the team be one of the most important in the world if the world was still 2003. They might even win a trophy together for a change. Obviously Figo is a huge name and although his skills have diminished he still has game, but signing players that are at the tail ends of their careers hardly makes a league become one of the most important in the world. It makes you a lucrative retirement home. Just ask the leagues in the Middle East and the J-League.
