Amine Chermiti Scores the Most Determined Goal of 2007

By: Daryl | December 17th, 2007

Third-place playoffs are normally lackadaisical affairs where no one really cares who wins. But when you’re Urawa Red Diamonds and Étoile du Sahel, and never really had a chance of winning the Club World Cup against the likes of Boca and AC Milan, then the third place playoff suddenly becomes a lot more important and you get goals like this.

Étoile’s 19 year old Tunisian striker Amine Chermiti nutmegs the Urawa defender and gets knocked to the floor. But instead of rolling around or throwing his arms in the air or pleading for a penalty, Chermiti gets up and keeps going, straight through the Urawa keeper (who thought he’d got the ball) and straight into the back of the net.

Unfortunately for Chermiti, Étoile lost on penalties after the game had finished 2-2. But looks like the young striker has a promising future, with European clubs like Marseille, FC Zurich and Hamburg apparently showing an interest and that list set to get a lot longer if/when Chermiti impresses for Tunisia in next month’s African Cup of Nations.
