The Offside, El Fuera de juego, Il Fuorigioco, Das Abseits, Le hors-jeu

By: Daryl | September 21st, 2009

Apologies for the Google Translate inspired translations in the title. Any language mangling was unintentional. I just wanted to get your attention.

Longtime Offside readers will know that the majority of our blogs are written in English. We are now planning to expand beyond that, and offer blogs in other languages. We’ve made a modest start, adding a Spanish language blog for Colombian team Atlético Nacional, and a bilingual Portuguese-English blog for Brazilian team Santos that should make Pelé proud.

We welcome applications for new blogs in other non-English languages. If you are interested, please read on….

We are especially interested in having blogs written in the native language of the team. For example, we have a Boca Juniors Offside blog, which we think would do very well on The Offside if written in Spanish. (update: We have a new Boca blogger, in English. But if you want to write about Boca en Español then we could possible start a second, – Spanish language – Boca blog.) We can also fire up new blogs for anyone who convinces us they have what it takes.

The downside is that you’ll also need to also speak English in order to contact us. That’s my fault, because I didn’t try hard enough in school and so am embarrassingly lame and uni-lingual. But if you already read The Offside, and you’re currently reading this post, then hopefully that won’t be a problem.

If you’re still interested, then please read our blogging application guidelines here and then send me an email. Look forward to hearing from you.

p.s. Digital pat on the back to the first commenter who names all five languages in the image at the top of this post.

    Digital pat on the back goes to Kieran. Nice one.

    To be honest I didn’t even know Guernésiais existed until I found that image via a search today.

    For anyone interested, here’s the Guernésiais Wikipedia entry.

    And for the record, we won’t be setting up Offside blogs in Guernésiais. But we’re still welcoming applications for blogs in more widely spoken languages.

    There could be. We currently have no active Eredivise blogs, so writing one of those in Dutch (or English, or bilingually) is definitely an option.

    @Marlon,

    Very funny sir.

    For anyone confused by Marlon’s comment, I’m pretty sure he’s referring to this:
