The Offside Euro 2008 Champion: Charles Snyder
By: Dave Martinez | July 11th, 2008
Over three weeks of tournament action and only one country stood tall: Sweden. Ibrahimovich proved to be unstoppable in the virtual world, earning glory for his country where the real world left a bit to be desired. Standing in the finals against a tough Croatian squad, they dispatched their opponents 2-1 for the win.
Charles Snyder has shot and tackled his way to a championship, taking on the best from our online community in the UEFA Euro 2008 game by EA Sports. He will be receiving a prize pack from EA Sports for his achievement. Congrats pal!
===============================================================
Whats your name?
Charles Snyder
Where are you from?
New Jersey
Nationality?
American; if you wanna get technical polish, german, dutch, and italian.
Do you have a EURO world ranking?
In Euro 2008 its 8253. I don’t play online too much.
What is your online gamer rating?
In Euro its 2, for FIFA its 12
Your screenname is Flutie Magic. What the hell does that mean anyway?
I’m a huge fan of Doug Flutie, and this name was derived from the amazing hail mary pass which was no doubt magical.
Whats your favorite club?
In America the Red Bulls and in Europe Bayern Munich.
editors note: A Red Bulls fan? Bravo.
Favorite national team?
Germany
Who is your favorite player?
Tough question, either Wesley Sneijder or Luca Toni.
Why did you pick Sweden for this tourney?
Well they were the only team available, but I am a fan of the Swedes and it ended up being a perfect fit.
What was the first FIFA game you ever purchased?
Hmmm I think it was FIFA 98: Road to World Cup.
Who has been your toughest opponent this tourney?
Toughest opponent was definitely Greece in the semi final, I can easily say i squeaked by in that game. Luck was on my side when early in the game Greece hit the post, then late in the game an equalizer for Greece bounced off the crossbar and straight down off the ground right in front of goal but it just would not go in. Tough game all around but I survived.
Best player on your squad?
It had to be Ibrahimovic. He had all the big goals when I needed them most. Against Romania in the quarters he scored in the 86th minute to equalize and keep my hopes alive. He had the lone goal against Greece, and in the final put away two more to bring home the title. I could not have done it without him.
Starting XI and formation:
XI:
4-1-2-1-2:Defence: Majstorovic, Mellberg, Hansson, Edman
Mid: Linderoth, H. Larsson, Ljundberg, Källström
Forwards: Ibrahimovic, ElmanderFor the final i used a 5-3-2:
Defence: Edman, Mellberg, Hansson, Majstorovic, Linderoth
Mid: Ljundberg, Källström, H. Larsson
Forwards: Ibrahimovic, ElmanderA general message to everyone?
I just want to say that this tournament has been a lot of fun, thank you Dave for organizing this. All the competitors were great and I’m proud that I got to play against them. I look forward to doing something like this again in the future.
A big thanks to EA Sports for their help in this. And the utmost thanks goes to all the participants and readers of this tournament – it has been a delight interacting with all of you.

It cracks me up that Sweden won, and the toughest game was Greece. Talk about life not imitating art!!

I call bullshit on this guy saying he’s from Jersey. Where’s your blow out, dude? Where’s the picture of yourself in front of your $600 Civic with $5000 rims and an obnoxiously loud exhaust to draw attention to your awful tan? How about your collection of awful KTU bass-bumpin’ CDs for the ride down Ocean Ave in Belmar? I want PROOF!! Until then his victory should be considered invalid. Who runs the Court for Offside Arbitration?!
