The Offside Fantasy League: Get Well Soon, Didier

By: Daryl | August 9th, 2007

Didier Drogba injuredThe start of the Premiership is just two days away, with Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and er, Chris Hutchings all ready to do battle. By sheer coincidnce the start of The Offside Fantasy League is also just two days away. If you haven’t settled on your starting eleven yet, now’s the time to do so.

If you’re clever, then your team is still in draft mode and you’re free to tinker away like Claudio Ranieri, fine tuning your selection ready for kick off. But if you’re a fool like me then you rushed in and submitted your team early, then watched in horror as the hallowed eleven were ravaged by various forms of injury. I’m now scrambling to use my one free transfer to find a suitable replacement for Dider Drogba. His name looks great in my eleven, but if he doesn’t play this weekend – as looks likely with that knee injury – then that’s 15m worth of striker watching the game in his suit and scoring zero points.

SquadGod have an injuries page listing what’s wrong with who and how long for. But it’s not fool proof by any means so I recommend doing some Google based detective work to find the latest news on anyone whose health is suspect. If you’re optimistic enough to have put your faith in delicate fellows like Jonathan Woodgate, Kieron Dyer or Michael Owen, then you might want to check in on them regularly. At the other end of the scale is Premiership Superman Frank Lampard. He currently has a broken toe but is still all set to play for Chelsea this weekend.

If you haven’t signed up for a team in The Offside Fantasy League yet, but you’d like to spend your days obsessing over a millionaire’s ligaments, then click the link and get involved.

I feel your pain, although I went with Obvious Striker B (Berbatov) instead. I had to dump John Terry for his injury, though. Counting the hours to Sunderland-Spurs …
