The Offside Fantasy League: This is How We Stand
By: Daryl | January 3rd, 2008After a busy festive period where Premier League teams played about three seasons in one week, The Offside Fantasy League finally takes a break this weekend. There are no Premier League fixtures as all the teams are involved in the Third Round of the FA Cup, which is fun to watch but does nothing for your fantasy football points total. While we’ve got time for a breather, let’s have a look at the current standings in the 276 team strong fantasy football group we call The Offside Fantasy League.
1. fruit (alunie1) 3059 points
2. ToneyBoney Xlb (Tonebone) 2809
3. Tukis gunners (Tuominen) 2786
4. Bramble for England (daryl) 2759
5. the good team (Lobotica) 2690
6. The Latent Menace (kilrv) 2678
7. fruitcakes (alunie) 2634
8. Dinamo Cambridge (Al Green) 2629
9. Landycakes Blows (TheDrew) 2627
10. Zara United (Rentongirl03) 2604
11. Red angels (tom) 2576

Congratulations to “alunie1″ and the “fruit” team, which tops not just The Offside Fantasy League, but the entire SquadGod competition. If you think of The Offside Fantasy League as the domestic competition and the larger SquadGod competition as the Champions League, them we should all be supporting our own and cheering “fruit” to victory in the bigger competition.
On a selfish, personal level I’m feeling happily vindicated by my (previously sarcastic but now borderline genuine) faith in Titus Bramble this week. He came very close to being dropped him recently, but I stuck by him because my team name made no sense without Titus. Two goals later and everyone’s happy. Except Rafa Benitez, obviously.
So take a breather this week, think about how you’ll use that free transfer before Gameweek 21 kicks off on January 12th. I’m recommending Gaël Clichy to anyone who’ll listen. And now would also be a good time top shed any African Cup of Nations-bound players. The final squads/rosters for the African Cup of Nations will be finalised by January 10th, so I’ll be checking in next week with a list of everyone who’s headed to Ghana.
