The Old Lady is Back
By: Daryl | August 25th, 2007
Juventus, The Old Lady of Italian football, marked her return to Serie A in style today, crushing Livorno 5-1 with a hat-trick from David Trezeguet and two goals from Vincenzo Iaquinta. Though the whole Moggi scandal was, well, a scandal, this feels like good news for two very good reasons.
1) It’s a return to normality for Italian football. To have a strong Juve team in the top flight, having done their penance, makes Serie A feel like the real deal again. In turn that has to be good for football as a whole right?
2) It’s great for players like Trezeguet, Del Piero, Buffon, Nedved and others who stuck with the club in Serie B last season. Many other players would have deserted a relegated club like rats from a sinking ship (I’m looking at you Jermain Defoe) so the loyal players deserve a good season.

From what I saw Juve, actually weren’t that impressive, Livorno are just terrible and completely fell apart at the end. Juve have a long way to go before they’re back on par with the top teams.
