The Premier League Stress Table

By: Bob | October 2nd, 2007

spurs-fan.jpgIf you were fortunate enough to watch Tottenham’s thrilling comeback against Aston Villa on Monday you know firsthand how stressful a soccer game can be. Stress is par for the course for Spurs supporters, at least if you are to believe a recent analysis of the most stressful teams in the English Premier League to watch.

The study, performed by Lloydspharmacy, takes into account the league results, league positions and margins of victory and defeat in order to calculate the amount of stress teams inflicted on their fans last season. Tottenham edged out West Ham at the top of the stress table. Unsurprisingly, the teams that finished lowest in the table seemed to cause their fans the most stress. The most stress-free fans are those who support the mid-table teams.

English Premier League Stress Table

Tottenham Hotspur 93.6
West Ham 93.5
Wigan Athletic 93.4
Charlton Athletic 93.2
Watford 92.4
Reading 87.9
Everton 86.1
Sheffield United 85.7
Portsmouth 81.5
Chelsea 75.4
Fulham 74.0
Man United 71.4
Bolton Wanderers 70.3
Man City 68.2
Newcastle United 68.1
Liverpool 61.7
Arsenal 59.7
Aston Villa 52.6
Blackburn Rovers 49.7
Middlesbrough 43.7

As for the most stressful player to play as in video games, the only choice really is Dean Windass.
