I agree JK. But I reckon that’s because they’re not playing regularly. My imaginary league (the RPL: Retired Professionals League?) would feature committed players playing a whole season.

I know Milan has a “Vecchie Glorie” (Old Glories) team that plays the occasional friendly with players from the 90’s like Franco Baresi, Daniele Massaro, Giovanni Stroppa, etc.

Matt, that’s called Masters Football. It’s mentioned in the above post, and I’d stand by the point that though it’s entertaining, it’s 6-a-side and therefore not quite the real thing.

In Brazil, there’s the indoor 6 aside version of it. It is called “Showbol”. People like Djalminha keep playing there, and the major clubs from Rio and Sao Paulo are there. The owner of this league, the ex Brazil international Ricardo Rocha, is said to be organizing some sort of international version of the tournament.

This exists already in England, a form of it anyway. All the big clubs play each other in indoor arenas, 5 a side, and they compete regionally (London, midlands, North west, etc), and each region winner moves onto a national tournament. Seemed like the arenas were packed when I saw it last, you’ll catch it on Sky occasionally. Not sure what the age limit was, but the games were of a decent standard, and some big names as well.
