The Riise Family Should Stay Away from Karaoke Bars
By: Bob | March 9th, 2007There are a few predictable things about karaoke bars no matter where you are in the world. There is always a creepy middle aged man in the corner smoking who is always a little too eager to applaud the female performers. There is always a performer whose intoxication is much greater than his ability to carry a tune. At least one person will choose to sing “I Will Survive”. And a Riise brother will likely be on hand to get into a fight.
The Riise brother in question this time is Bjørn Helge Riise, a player for the Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK. Following in the footsteps of his brother’s karaoke fun in Portugal, Riise got into a bit of a tussle at The Last Drop Bar (another fact: karaoke bars always have cheesy names) in the La Manga, Spain, where his team was training.
The night before the team went home to Norway, the players went to a karaoke bar, and after performing “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, Bjørn Helge bumped into a Englishman on the way down from stage. He then received a knock out by a drunk Englishman. A big fight then began between the Lillestrøm team, and a group of drunk English guys. The fight was described by viewers as very brutal. But, Bjørn Helge did not do anything wrong, according to the LSK players, himself and a journalist who were there. He got away before things got out of control.
“They said they knew my name, but I don’t know if that was the reason he punched me.” told Bjørn Helge Riise to a newspaper yesterday.
Lillestrom manager Jan Aage Fjortoft said: “Bjorn Helge needs to learn how to deal with the fact he’s the brother of a Liverpool player.”
He should also deal with the idea of not stepping foot in a karaoke bar ever again. Bad cover songs and the Riise family go together like oil and water. He should get a safer hobby like jumping out of airplanes without a parachute.
