San Jose is No Cal bay area. Why this geographic footprint? Because the league was initially trying to find good 10 good starting cities, Florida was a bust, the league decided it no longer made sense to put a team in a city just because it seems like a good idea and now has a specific group of criteria for ownership which have yet to be met by the areas with no team. San Jose got slight fudge in that there is still a slight chance the negotiated stadium deal doesn’t get through but it was still ahead of everyone else and besides was a high priority market because of the move of the previous quakes to Houston.

Great goal from Best, but why San Diego? Three teams in southern California, and none in the Pacific Northwest, none in the Southeast, none in the Southwest. It’s a bit ridiculous – with a few exceptions, our national association football league only covers SoCal and the Eastern seaboard, with a side of Texas.
