The Schadenfreude Returns: Own Goal Heaven In Ireland

By: chris | July 13th, 2010

Despite the fact that we’ve been consumed with the World Cup, football has somehow been living on in other (smaller) corners of the sporting globe underneath our very eyes. And though none of it will top Andres Iniesta’s uber-dramatic late winner to hoist Spain’s first ever trophy, that doesn’t mean the football elsewhere isn’t worthy.

Take, for instance, this own goal (head to the site for a better view of it flying off the defender’s face) in the game between Waterford United and Mervue United in the Irish second division – top league, that – a week or so back. It’s surely the best thing you’ve even seen, isn’t it?

Feels good to return to normalcy – that of ridiculous own goals and hearty laughter.

  • I'm a tad surprised by the "top league, that" sneeriness. You're better than that.
