The Thrilla’ In Mattersburg
By: chris | October 20th, 2008Forget about the German Bundesliga, they can’t hold a candle to their Austrian step-brother. Sure, the drama of Werder Bremen v Borussia Dortmund was nice, but last time I checked, and I checked recently, 11 is still more than 6. A lot more in the world of football.
The only real explanation for this is the two coaches got together before hand and agreed to say “fuck defense”. A 6-5 win for Sturm Graz in Mattersburg, featuring two hat tricks on each side of the ball. Even more magical: Sturm Graz was up 5-0 at the half. Mattersburg may have lost – could even have drawn even without that new entry to the Worst Sitter Misses of All-Time anthology – but what an epic, epic comeback to save face.
