You have to laugh at ANYONE who says that Cannavaro is in 2009 better than any of the other CBs listed on this thread. You’re just showing your knee-jerk one-eyed Serie A worship and not any understanding of football. What a joke! Hell, I’d even prefer Pepe to Canna right now! :-) Rio has his limitations, he wouldn’t be in my first XI but he’s certainly better than Cannavaro right now, no question.

Lucio, however, is a good shout.

To say that Casillas is a “distant third” is plainly ridiculous, and shows only contempt toward La Liga. Any one of Buffon, Casillas and Julio Cesar is an excellent choice. I prefer Julio Cesar myself–too many football fans/pundits ignore him as a one of the sport’s top keepers.

Yea ish, you got Grosso all wrong. Excellent going forward, not great going going back. I also dont agree that Serie A is much worse off than EPL. OF course Inter are Shite in Europe, no surprises there. AC Milan (my team) have been the beat team in Europe in the last ten years (surely no arguments) but now we’re going a little bit down hill. Though i think Juve are on the improve and they’ll be the ones to fly the Italian flag very soon (because Inter definitely wont, even if they win the next 10 cl’s). And of course Fiorentina are a good side that gave Liverpool a raping two weeks ago.
Plus Italy have a gun under 20 team (lost 3-2 to Hungary minus a coach and 3 players shown a red, two of which were shocking decisions) and an awesome crop of under 21 players. Now whether the big teams opt to play these satrlets is another story, but the basis for a bright serie a future is there.
Btw ish, EPL is not even fit to lick La Liga’s left testicle anymore, such is the gulf in class between the two, so don’t be foolish enough to pair them together. Im just thinking, Barca played ManUre off the park in last year’s final and whilst they’ve gotten stronger, ManUre has weakened imo.
Chelsea is the only English side that has a chance, and im not sayong this is the only reason, because Chelsea were good last year too, but guess what nationality there coach is and what league he’s come from.

No, no, no, and no. Did anyone see Fabio Grosso play at Lyon? He was one of the worst leftbacks in the Ligue defensively. It was his attacking proficiency that redeemed him, he occasionally even played on the left wing.

if grosso is such a great leftback why didnt any1 buy him when he was at lyon?? hmm maybe because grosso is decent defender but ask him to go up forward and he falls on his arse.

serie a has gone downhill, there are still good players there but a higher concentration of good players now exist in england and spain. There is a reason that spanish and english teams have been the main semi finalists for the last 5 years, with only AC breaking it up in terms of winners.

I said that Grosso was part of the stingiest defense in WC History and that Ashley can’t defend. How does that make scoring the main concern for a left fullback?

How many positions did I name Serie A players to? Did I make the entire team of Serie A players? Unlike Rob, I am willing to consider that there are players from other leagues better than the one I watch. Have I disputed any choice in the midfield or attack?

Credit where credit is due.

Why shouldn’t I name players from Serie A if I think that they are better at those positions? Canna, for example, is still a very good player and a very good leader. Rio has never shown anything to me in either department.

Please people, please don’t judge the rest of us calcio-lovers on the shiite that MAD spews. It’s funny that he only uses examples of form for national teams when this team would obviously play club football, a totally different game (Del Piero anyone? unbelievable for Juve, less so for the Azzurri)

And Rob, that’s fine if you don’t think Nesta cuts it, it was more a question of how you could even contemplate Pepe being in this side, unless it was for UFC or something

Pepe over Terry,Vidic,Nesta(who is 10 times better than Pepe),Samuels,Puyol is ridiculous. He is a part of the defense that doesnt know how to keep a clean sheet
