6a00d8341c4e6153ef00e54fde32a38833-800wiWe’re bringing back the quizzes, at least until the World Cup. Only instead of the weekend, the quiz will come early in the week and the answers late.

We’re nothing if not here to waste your employer’s time.

This week is simple: some sweet league position graphs have formed being so late in the season. Following are 12 team graphs documenting league position throughout the season – guess the team.

Anything in the UEFA Top 12 leagues* is fair game. Didn’t think we’d make it easy, did’ya?

* – Do note by 2009 ranks, not 2010. Wikipedia’s futuristic.

And no cheating with league tables please, or else we’ll find you out and have you committed to the local asylum with a disorder which includes the symptom of cheating on a quiz from a football blog which has no prize. Hell worthy and due plenty of chiding from your peers, for sure.

    11: Bayer Leverkusen ??
  • Shazback
    1 : Atletico Madrid
    2 : Auxerre
    3 : Panathinaikos
    4 : Cagliari
    5 : Burnley
    6 : Real Zaragoza
    7 : Stuttgart
    8 : Belenenses
    9 : Sampdoria
    10: PSG
    11: PSV Eindhoven
    12: Wolfsburg
  • Maybe?
    1. Atletico?
    2. Auxerre
    3. Panathinaikos?
    4. Cagliari
    5. Burnley
    6. Zaragoza
    7. Stuttgart
    8. Belenese
    9. Sampdoria
    10. PSG
    11. PSV
    12. Wolfsburg
  • Oh wait, Portugal's Belenenses tie-tacular collapse probably created enough yellow to be #8.
  • Just in case they are real:
    1.
    2. Auxerre
    3. Benfica
    4.
    5. Burnley
    6.
    7.
    8. Belenese?
    9. Sampdoria
  • Building on that though and throwing out some more guesses, #9 has to be Sampdoria after their recent run against the big clubs of Serie A. And I'm going to wildly guess that #6's collapse is Real Zaragoza. And most of the rest are mid-table so I'm probably out of any more guesses.
  • Ian
Whoever #7 is, I feel for their fans. 6 wins in a row and they rise only one place in the standings to remain high-midtable.
  • The mid-table teams are the killer though. Strong top sides and sad collapses are all well and good, but who besides true fans really pay attention to the mediocre ups and downs of stable mid-table clubs?
  • I've also got a feeling that #5 is Burnley's collapse after their semi-promising start toppling Manchester United and Everton.
  • Given the 16 teams, I'm suspecting #3 is Panathinaikosand given the 18 teams, I'm guessing #11 is PSV Eindhoven as I can't think of any other third place teams that have only lost twice off the top of my head.
  • All of them are made up and it's a trick? Now THAT would be a quiz and a half
  • Aspano
I'd guess #3 is whoever is atop the Portuguese league...
  • Peter
#7 must be the meteoric 2nd half rise of my VfB Stuttgart
  • Adam
    #7 Everton?
  • Aspano
    #3 can't be Barca because:

    A) They have only lost once all season, not 4 times.
    B) There are more than 16 teams in La Liga.
  • Theo
5 or 8 must be Liverpool.....joking before any angry liverpool fans get indignant
  • edgar
    Juve #10?
  • Or Panathinaikos. Bah.
  • # 11 Bordeaux? Damn this is hard. #3 has to be either Twente or Barca.
  • @ Chris - that's why I failed maths.
  • dk
    Or 1. Fiorentina?
  • dk
    1. Atletico Madrid?
  • Jorid
    Roma #2?
  • Aspano
    I'd guess #9 is Sampdoria...
  • Ian
Is #3 Twente? I think they've been relatively stable at the top all season in the Eredivisie.
  • The positions aren't readily apparent? Coulda fooled me.
  • It would help if the position axis was labeled. *Clutching at straws*
