The World’s Longest Soccer Game
By: Daryl | January 24th, 2009
You might think the world’s longest soccer game was Romania 0-0 France at Euro 2008. That snoozefest definitely felt long, but it was actually only 90 minutes.
The actual world’s longest game may have been played recently in Iloilo City, the Philippines, where Barotac Nuevo Comprehensive National High School (BNCNHS) played against Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) for a blister-tastic 35 hours and 20 minutes.
In their attempt to break the world record, the teams played 19 “halves” of 45 minutes (halves in quotation marks because they’re not really halves when there’s 19 of them) with the coaches deciding to end it there after one player shoved another. Well, if you’d been marking someone for 35 hours plsu then you’d be sick of them too.
Duffie Botavara, secretary general of the Iloilo Football Association described it as “a tight game”, with ISCOF winning 136-133. “It wasn’t a giveaway match. Both teams played tight defense, the reason for the low score, unlike that in Australia.” he said.
That little dig at Australia is a reference to the current world record, where two teams from Joey’s Soccer Club played for 32 hours and 50 minutes in a game that finished 315-296.
The documentation is still being compiled so that Phillipines game can be submitted as the new world record, including continuous video footage of all 35 hours and 20 minutes. Any volunteers to sit through that?

Can we talk about that little cartoon in the article.
‘I am going to punch your face as soon as I get an IV transfusion.’
