They got everything, but they didn’t take his Referee Jersey

robbery.jpgYou can’t blame Brazilian referee Marcelo de Lima for being a bit distracted during Wednesday night’s match between Flamengo and Madureira. You also can’t fault him for handing out cards and for demanding the players on the pitch respect the laws of the game. This was Lima’s only form of justice for the evening. While driving to the stadium his car was ambushed by two armed gunmen who forced their way into the vehicle and made him drive to a deserted area before stealing the car.

‘They took everything: mobile phone, wallet and the car itself,’ Lima told Radio Globo. ‘But I asked them not to take my kit for the game.’

This man is a hero. Protecting a referee’s kit from abduction surely deserves a medal of honor or at least a night out on the town with one of his colleagues.
