They’re having a gay old time at the Gay World Cup

Since we all know that there couldn’t possibly ever be a gay person playing professional soccer, we are left to watch the Gay World Cup to see the abilities of men who like men. This year’s version kicked off in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday with a ritual disco dance move or two. With teams from 28 countries participating, it is the largest field for a competition that is 17 years old. The current holders are London’s Stonewall FC who will be playing in their hometown when the tournament comes to England in 2008. A video about the tournament can be seen here. Some interesting thoughts from a former professional player who was rumored to be gay can be read here.

First off, Stonewall F.C. is a seriously awesome name for a gay football team.

Second, obviously FIFA is not involved in this event, as the players in that photo seem to be enjoying themselves.

Trent, I had the same thought about Stonewall. And about FIFA. It appears that your mind operates on the same wavelength as mine. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

What I can’t figure out is WHY they want FIFA approval.
