Thiago Neves Has Anger Issues

By: chris | April 17th, 2009

Normally this would be just another story of the insanity which envelopes South American football: Brazilian player whips ball at ball boy. And in most cases it’s a no-name player we haven’t heard of before and won’t ever again (unless he does something similar). But in this case it’s not just any other player, it’s Thiago Neves – formerly Brazil’s player of the year and soon-to-be reigning Biggest Transfer Flop of 2009.

Last summer Thiago was hot property, winning Selecao caps and landing in rumor columns alongside such names as Manchester United and Barcelona. Despite being 23 at the time, his spell at eventual employers HSV was so bad he wasn’t just loaned out in the January but sold to Saudi Arabia and only then loaned back to Fluminense in Brazil. So not even a Saudi club wanted him.

And presumably all this frustration compounds, so Thiago ends up taking it out on twelve year old ball boys. Alright, the ‘ball boy’ is 28…but whatever.

Actually, Al-Hilal were to keen on having him play this season, but Thiago on going on loan for 6 months before joining the Saudi club.

I believe he said to the interviewer that the ball boy was wasting time with the ball. No excuse for acting like Eric Cartman though.

What in the world did the ball boy do to deserve that? Anyways great Red Card, you can't do that to ANYONE on the pitch or off.
  • That's my boy. :P

The Saudi side Al-Hilal actually bought him from HSV and loaned him to Fluminense because Hamburg refused to sell or loan him to Flum themselves, and he would *only* go back to Flum.
