This Getafe Goal Celebration Was Brought to You by Burger King

By: Daryl | July 20th, 2009

“This was a partnership destined to happen,” said Elías Diaz of Burger King (Spain). “This is a club with commitment and passion. Burger King’s values of fun, fidelity and authenticity identify with the spirit of Getafe and their unconditional passion.”

And of course, the best way to market Getafe’s unconditional passion is…

…to cheapen the few goals Getafe will actually score in La Liga this coming season by asking the players to celebrate Burger King style.

I kid you not. It even comes with instructions:

To be fair, I don’t think the players are contractually obliged to put on the King face every time they score. Seems like it’s purely optional.

But we could be looking back on this a few years from now as the tipping point, where sponsors decided the old logo on the shirt deal wasn’t good enough value, and that goal celebration product placement was the way to go. So don’t be too surprised when Cristiano Ronaldo starts celebrating his goals like this:

Seeing that in a football match is definitely worth the yellow card.

CR7 has an oddly elongated neck in that photo.

I think it is just a joke, specially if they realeased instructions that “some how” leaked into the public… I think this is genius, best kit of the season! An excellent way for Burger King and Getafe (A lesser known club) some exposure.

its pretty hilarious and probably intended to be a joke with subliminal intentions, definitely a slippery slope.

The sad part is that the king on the inside is the best thing about this shirt.
