This Might Explain Chelsea’s Lack of Transfer Activity

sinking_ship.jpgAfter spending your money to buy up football talent from around the world, what can a restless billionaire do to fend off boredom? If you are Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, you forgo spending money on a defender and instead get busy building the world’s largest yacht.

According to reports in Germany, construction of Abramovich’s fourth yacht is underway in Hamburg and disappointingly it will not be called the SS Sheva.

The identity of the new yacht’s owner did not stay secret in Hamburg’s harbour, however. Even the name of the ship has leaked out — it will be called Eclipse, and at 155 meters (508.5 feet) long it will outdo the current record holder, the 147 meter (482 feet) long Prince Abdul Aziz, which belonged to the late Saudi King Fahd. The construction of the new Abramovich yacht has already begun, well hidden at the shipbuilders Blohm + Voss, in dock 5, Steinwerder Quay.

Just like Chelsea’s quest to finish at the top of the English Premiership this season, Abramovich’s yacht might be nosed out in the end. The emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, is building a yacht that will be a full 8 meters longer than the Chelsea owner’s. Those 8 meters will surely make all the difference between a cramped ride and one of luxury.
