Time to Pick Your Team of the Year

2007 is drawing to close a close, which means the trees are going up, gifts are being bought, and massive amounts of alcohol are being consumed. And, most importantly, UEFA are once again selecting their Team of the Year. Woo hoo! Erm.
Yes, it’s just as silly as an other football award (Marek Jankulovski is one of the five best left backs?) but, still. The graphics are cool, and what we think matters, for once. Really the only drawback is that you can’t pick Zlatan as both strikers.

I feel like I should put up a disclaimer before my choices…
Disclaimer: I never followed the sport at all (I didn’t even know who Ronaldinho was) until April so I’ve had a lot of catching up to do and still don’t know a whole lot. Ruud/VillaAnd I realized… I bet these guys would play HORRIBLY together. Does that matter though?
(p.s. Seeing Drenthe as a choice made me realize how out of control the hype over this kid has gotten. He hasn’t even had a major European Club start yet! The clips they had were all from two different U-21 games, and in one of them he got past his defender, albeit quite spectacularly, but he was our of bounds. I think people just enjoy saying his name.)

But Pirlo and Kaka absolutely deserve spots, and Pippo, my love, who like someone said, does nothing for 90 minutes, and then comes in and scores in stoppage time and sinks your team of the face of Europe, deserves some recognition, even if he hasn’t done much this season.

Zlatan doesn’t belong on that team. He’s nice, but it’s Ruud and Totti all day every day. Both had at least 10 more goals than Zlatan.
