Titus Bramble: is he really that bad?
By: Daryl | June 3rd, 2007Summer’s here and so Premiership transfer rumours are flying. One of the more surprising stories has been several clubs expressing an interest in accident prone central defender Titus Bramble, formerly of Newcastle United. Latest from the rumour mill is that he’s heading for Wigan Athletic.
Bramble won’t be a popular first signing for new Latics manager Chris Hutchings. His error strewn reputation precedes him. But is he really all that bad?
My feeling is that he makes some horrible (and sometimes hilarious) mistakes but for the most part is a pretty solid central defender who’s been made the scapegoat for Newcastle’s team wide poor defending which has been a problem ever since the early ’90s.
All defenders make mistakes, and I’m sure someone somewhere could put together a similar compilation for say, Wes Brown (remember his slip against Brazil on Friday?) The video below is a slightly more balanced reflection of Bramble. It highlights the good and the bad aspects of his game, but after watching it you’ll see why a club like Wigan are more than willing to take a gamble on Bramble.
