Tom Cruise Takes the Field
By: Laurie | January 9th, 2008
What position do you picture Tom Cruise playing?
Stop snickering. I’m serious.
I’m thinking he’s a Top Gun. You know. The Legend in his own mind? The prima donna striker who can only be put on in the 85th minute because otherwise he’ll get injured? The guy who has All the Right Moves, unless he comes up against someone with talent. The guy who’s main interest isn’t play on the field, but merely in The Color of Money. And the occasional Cocktail afterwards.
But it would certainly seem like Risky Business to put him in goal when your real goalkeeper gets injured. But that’s the truth of it.
Oh, wait. Never mind! I take it all back! This is actually about the English U-18 Tom Cruise. The guy who plays with the Arsenal Youth Squad.
Do check out the link. It’s to a sweet story about how the young central defender had to play in goal when the starting goalkeeper was injured.
(Many, many apologies to the young, talented, English Tom Cruise for this post. I’m sure you’ve heard these jokes many times already.)
Thanks to BallHype for the link.

Yeah, I’ve got to think that if my name was Tom Cruise, and I’d already decided not to kill my parents for naming me Tom Cruise, I’d go with Thomas, or maybe a middle name. Even Tommy Cruise would be better. Poor guy will never, ever be first-ranked for his name on Google, no matter what he does in his career.

Hi, “friend,”
I hope that if you’ll go back and re-read, you’ll see that I was poking fun at Scientology Tom, not your friend, who just has the misfortune to share the name. I have nothing but respect for young players who can make it in the EPL youth system. No offense intended.
