Tommy Hicks Needs To Zip It ASAP
By: chris | January 23rd, 2008
Tom Hicks, part time owner of Liverpool FC, the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars has decided to give us all a free lesson on how to be an idiot. Sports owners spouting off at the mouth isn’t exactly a new thing, but the multiple-team owner surely has to watch his step a little more carefully. After all, everybody needs a little love. Well Tom says “I will do no such thing!“:
People are worried that I might take money away from the Rangers to go to Liverpool. But it is just the reverse. Liverpool is going to throw off lots of extra money which, if I choose to, I can use for the Rangers or the Stars.
Hey Tom, don’t do that. Seriously, don’t do that. There are so many things wrong with that statement I can’t even begin to count. Plus, I’m not sure another country wants to be pillaged and see one of its greatest products siphoned into the bank account of a Texas Rangers owner.
There’s surely a Rangers fan in the house saying “well, it’s not like money has been the problem”. Many will reference the ill-advised $250m contract which he gave to A-Rod. But when I think of Tom Hicks, I think of three glorious words: Chan. Ho. Park. 5 years, $65m for a walking, talking batting practice machine. Awesome.
(And as far as the Stars go…does hockey still exist?)
I can’t imagine these comments are going to sit well with Liverpool fans. A recent poll shows a whole one percent of the sample wants the Americans to stay in charge. Feel free to knock that down to zero now.

This statement by Tom Hicks is absolutely infuriating.
I’ve grown up in Fort Worth, Texas but have never, ever been a Rangers fan because of Hicks. His son is actually one of my better acquaintances, but Mr. Hicks disgusts me.
There is nothing more frustrating than an owner who buys your favorite franchise solely for personal profit and greed. The Rangers will always be mediocre, but he doesn’t care. The media has been talking about how bad he is for years and years, but he doesn’t care. He is interested in one thing and only one thing: Money.
It’s terribly sad for me to watch this whole process of him buying a team and then relegating it to mediocrity to squeeze out every penny once again, but that’s how he is. The total lack of ambition he instills in his franchises is incredible.
I feel terribly sorry for all you Liverpool fans out there.
