Too Many Girls Aspiring To Be WAGs
By: chris | October 14th, 2008
At least according to culture minister Barbara Follett who is, now sit down for this one, married to someone really rich and really famous.
I suppose becoming a WAG is the female equivalent of winning the lottery. You’ve got oodles of money your husband probably doesn’t deserve to spend on whatever you wish, mostly therapy once you realize your loving hubby has bedded everything with a heartbeat just south of the North Pole. You’re instantaneously famous for doing absolutely nothing but getting drunk at the poshest night clubs in skimpy outfits and occasionally taking your top off in front of cameras so that you too can say you have a “career”. Shit, even I want to be a WAG.
But WAGs have done as much good for the Female! Power! movement as Sex & The City and Babs is none too happy about it, saying:
“Kids nowadays just want to be famous. If you ask little girls, they either want to be footballers’ wives or win The X Factor. Our society is in danger of being Barbie-dolled.”
Babs wants these young girls aspiring to make more meaningful contributions to society than cacophonous pop albums and playing Where’s my tanline? on the latest cover of FHM. Like, you know, getting real jobs that aid in the evolution of society. Especially in England’s “coastal communities”. Don’t particularly know why, but I’d love to see the scientific date which says the smell of fresh sea water = more WAGly desires.
So girls, if you’re reading this, want for something deeper, more substantive. Be the best you can be. Girl power.

(Oops, bad example.)
