Top 10 Champions League Goals 2006/2007
By: Bob | May 24th, 2007
I don’t know about you, but the day after a big game is always a letdown for me. The inevitable build-up is followed by a game that inevitably cannot live up to hype but nevertheless is better than the idea of having no big game to watch at all. That is where we stand today after a Champions League final between AC Milan and Liverpool that wasn’t one for the ages, but had its moments of drama nevertheless.
The fallout from the contest is predictable and perhaps that is why the day after is always a downer for me. On the winning side there is much jubilation and those who would have been vilified if they had lost are being lauded because they won. On the losing side there is the inevitable finger pointing at the coach, the referee, the opponent, and on and on.
Such is the nature of sports no matter the size of the game. For some, the day after water cooler talk is the best part of the whole act. For me, it is an empty void that will only start to be filled by thoughts of the next competition, the next game, the next great moment.
Football fans by their very nature are an optimistic lot even though we really have no reason to be that way. The one thing that always holds true in football or any sport for that matter is that you never know when you are going to see an amazing goal or an amazing pass or something that can make an otherwise meaningless game have meaning. It is the 5% excitement that makes us slug through the 95% routine. It is why no matter what we thought of the 2006-07 Champions League final, we’ll be back in front of our televisions watching it again next year.
Until then, there are countless more games and countless more moments to behold. Who knows, we might even see something special during the Thursday Night MLS game tonight. For now, here are some of the best goals from this year’s Champions League competition.
