Top 20 Goal Celebrations
By: Daryl | September 17th, 2009The recent Emmanuel Adebayor controversy had me thinking about goal celebrations, which led me to this excellent YouTube video featuring 20 of the best.
Plenty of classics in there, including Roger Milla dancing with the corner flag at Italia ‘90, Gazza’s legendary dentist chair celebration at Euro ‘96, and the insane backflippery of Julius Aghahowa.
The YouTube vid came with a handy list of the goalscorers, which you can find after the jump. Tough to pick a favourite, but I think if pushed I’d go with Jürgen Klinsmann’s dive celebration for Spurs in 1994, the perfect answer to accusations that he went down too easily in the box.
20. Roger Milla (Cameroon)
19. Allan Nielsen (Tottenham)
18. Lee Sharpe (Manchester United)
17. Ahn Jung-Hwan (Korea)
16. Brian Laudrup (Denmark)
15. Papa Bouba Diop (Senegal)
14. Brandi Chastain (USA)
13. Marcelo (Sheffield United)
12. Jürgen Klinsmann (Tottenham)
11. Julius Aghahowa (Nigeria)
10. Aylesbury United
9. Paul Gascoigne (England)
8. Ruud van Nistelrooy (Netherlands)
7. Bebeto (Brazil)
6. Robbie Fowler (Liverpool)
5. Ian Wright (Celtic)
4. Ally McCoist (Kilmarnock)
3. Peter Crouch (England)
2. Craig Bellamy (Liverpool)
1. Temuri Ketsbaia (Newcastle)

Snorting the goal line is by far the funniest.
Anybody else think that Adebayor’s celebration was awesome? I’m not a City fan by any stretch, I just love when players stick it to their former fans that they left under suspect conditions.
The best celebration in any sport? The time TO stood on the Star at Dallas stadium, and was tackled. That was sweet.

What about Gramatica tearing his ACL while jumping up and down after that 1st quarter field goal to put his team up 3-0???

The Sheffield Utd player taking off his jersey to have another one underneath is great. I wonder if someone did that today if the referee would give them a yellow card.

I think you’ll find the following is the best – Marco Tardelli, World Cup ‘82. Sums up perfectly what it means to score:

I remember reading about one from a blog – a guy scored and attempted to remove his wedding ring from his finger. Guess what happened? He ripped half of his finger off. It was on youtube, so it was for real…
