Tottenham 4-4 Chelsea, Lazio 3-2 Roma, Goals Galore

Two action-packed goal-filled games in two European capitals yesterday. In London, Spurs and Chelsea split eight goals down the middle at White Hart Lane. Chelsea had been 3-1 up before letting Spurs back in, and then Joe Cole must have thought he’d scored the winner when he received Drogba’s pass with a first touch that fooled everyone (it was either miscontrol or genius, I’m leaning towards the latter) and finished past Paul Robinson in the 80th minute. But it was Robbie Keane who had the final say, with an 88th minute equalizer he curled in from outside the box.

It’s been suggested that this result is bad for Avram Grant as he failed to secure the win and Chelsea are now five points away from Manchester United and first place in the Premier League. But if Grant’s tenure continues to produce 4-4 draws (remember the one against Villa over Christmas) then I’d be sad to see him go.

And then there was the Rome derby…

…which Lazio won 3-2 at the Stadio Olimpico, and it was all about Valon Behrami. Lazio’s Swiss fullback/winger had a dramatic/traumatic 90 minutes. Early on, he struck a clearance against Roma’s Rodrigo Taddei to gift the giallorossi a 1-0 lead. But a Goran Pandev equaliser and then a Tommaso Rocchi goal gave Lazio the lead, before Simone Perrotta equalized for Roma with half and hour to go.

And it looked like it was going to stay that way, until Behrami arrived at the back post in the 92nd minute to score a Lazio winner.

The defeat is a blow to Roma’s title hopes, and they’re now seven points behind Inter. But all is not lost. Inter aren’t doing too well and only managed a 1-1 draw with Genoa last night.
