Transfer Talk: Atletico Madrid Might Just Nab Another Aguero.
By: chris | January 6th, 2010
Remember back when Kun Aguero signed for Atletico Madrid? It was a shock on par with the Tevez/Mascherano-West Ham double swoop, Claudio Caniggia to Dundee and Raymond Domenech failing to take France beyond the Euro2008 groups.
Well it appears lightning might strike twice, as they’re once again oh-so-close to the next big thing – and it’s not Fran Merida, though you can understand if the Atleti Offside is in raptures over that as well.
The agent of Argentine phenom Eduardo Salvio last week announced his client’s intention to become Athletico’s next Kun Aguero:
“Salvio is really looking forward to playing for Atletico Madrid. He has made up his mind and wants to join them,” Jimenez told AS. “Negotiations are still ongoing, but there’s a gap to close before an agreement is reached. Atletico want to pay the transfer fee in installments, while Lanus want the entire amount at once.”
Whether or not he also plans to knock up one of Maradona’s kids before skipping town with a hotter, non-Diego-related lass remains dangling in the winds unanswered.
And late Tuesday Atletico suits – not quite gospel, but still – announced in a vague, roundabout way proceedings are heading towards the all important dotted line: “We spoke with Salvio and he gave us his availability. The boy wants to play with us. We are considering all the details before moving on to getting his signature.”. Cue parties on the other half of Madrid (much love, Getafe):
Of course it leaves you wondering just where all this money is coming from – Atletico haven’t exactly been coy about their lack of a Scrooge McDuck vault – and that leads to one theory:
Start printing those Kun Aguero Chelsea kits.
It’s kind of the deal which everyone is expecting eventually, but no one knows when. Carlo Ancelotti has defiantly denied any moves will be made during the winter window, which, if you’ve paid any attention to football oh…ever, means a deal is being negotiated as we speak.
Then again, is this how transfer rumors get started? This must be what it’s like to write transfer columns for a real newspaper. Viva la lies!
