Transfer Talk: D-Fence

Hide the women and children, because Milan are on the prowl for centerbacks. With Paolo Maldini in the midst of his swansong (or so we assume), Alessandro Nesta’s knees aspiring to bone-on-bone and Philippe Senderos being Philippe Senderos, Adriano Galliani is looking to scoop up any aged or Brazilian centerbacks available. Bonus points if they’re aged and Brazilian.

It’s being reported in Italy the Rossoneri pulled off perhaps the second major coup after Real Madrid nabbing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in picking up Brazilian defender of the year Thiago Silva, who was the jewel of many a wealthy eye, for free but may leave loan him back to Brazil to season til the summer. They’ve also confirmed their interest in unloved Dane Daniel Agger. However, Alex has just today stated he wants the f*ck out of Stamford Bridge and he’s Brazilian. Draw your own conclusions.

But really, Milan fans have to be exceptionally pleased by all this. Everybody and their sister knows Milan’s biggest need has been to get younger and better in the back. That is, everyone except Adriano Galliani.

And even though they’re still “looking” for a buyer, Newcastle will try and add to their defensive equation with Juan Manuel Vargas of Fiorentina. Most likely mindless speculation considering he just move to Firenze, but it wasn’t long ago when he was being sought out by Real Madrid, Roma & Fiorentina. Talk about a plummet.

Daniel Alves’ replacement Abdoulay Konko in Sevilla isn’t quite living up to the hype or price, so he may be sent packing back to Italy, where he’ll find a home in Sicily with Palermo.

Big Phil is looking to add to the Chelsea stable in the form of Amr Zaki, only on loan to Wigan. Reportedly £6m can get the deal done. And it’s also being reported they’re thisclose to another striker, Orlando Sa of Braga, for £4m but may leave him in Portugal for the remainder of the year. “Thanks for the goals, Nicholas, but kindly return back to your seat on the pine.”

Man City’s insane rumor of the day: Fernando Torres for £50m. Poppycock.

But undoubtedly the best piece of gossip for the day:

England captain John Terry hogged the karaoke machine at Chelsea’s Christmas party – bellowing out numbers by Luther Vandross, Biggie Smalls and Soulja Boy.
(Daily Mirror)

You superman that ho, John.

Do you have £6m Laurie? If you did, theoffside should sign him and make a semi professional team...

(of course we'd have to think of wages and ... you know... more players than just Zaki)

Chris - quite possibly the best ending line you've ever finished a blog post with. lol well done.
  • £6m for Zaki is criminally low. Hell, I'd buy him for that.
