Transfer Talk: SWP to West Ham, but not Bent
By: Daryl | June 16th, 2007
Seems all the transfer talk involves West Ham United in some way. Three reasons for this: 1) They have money to spend 2) They have players who want to leave, and 3) They can afford players who consider themselves too good to play for West Ham. All this combines to make West Ham the center of all kinds of comings, goings and even stayings. No wonder Alan Curbishley looks tired.
Little Shaun Wright-Phillips has been told he can leave Chelsea for £10 million (less than half the amount they paid for him 18 months ago) and West Ham will gladly pay that amount. After all, Alan Curbishley has at least £17 million burning a hole in his pocket right now after…
…Darren Bent’s collapsed £17 million transfer from Charlton to West Ham. But Hayden Mullins (the lightweight makeweight in that deal) is still keen on completing his move to The Addicks. He’s hoping someone somewhere remembers or cares enough to complete the necessary paperwork…
…and Curbs will have even more to spend if he sells Yossi Benayoun to Liverpool, though the two clubs are struggling to agree on a price, although…
…they could come to some sort of swapsys deal with Benayoun going to Anfield and Craig Bellamy coming in the other direction. Not to mention…
…one Carlos Tevez, who is still a West Ham player, expected to leave for a big big club (Inter? Real? Man Utd?) in the near future.
The non-West Ham transfer talk sounds like this:
Eidur Gudjohnsen could be leaving Barcelona for Manchester United. Quality player, but he has one of those names that’s a pain to spell so let’s hope this deal gets done quickly.
Carlos Pavón - the Honduras forward who put four past Cuba recently - will soon be an LA Galaxy player. It’s not 100% definite, but definite enough to warrant a haiku.
Poor Andri Shevchenko. He’s had a rough year at Chelsea but at least he knew he’d always be loved by the red and black half of Milan. Well, apparently not. According to Italian newspaper Il Giornale, several senior Milan players don’t believe Sheva should be able to walk back into the (Champions League winning) team after hightailing it to London last year.
