Transfer Talk: Franck Ribery to Bayern Munich, AC Milan Target Thierry Henry

It is that time of year when your favorite player is linked to every big club in the world, rumors abound and occasionally what you read actually comes true. The summer transfer window is always a busy one. Here’s a look at some of highs and lows from today’s transfer chatter.

Everyone and their second cousin are lusting after Marseilles’ Franck Ribery and it isn’t because of his boyish good looks. The dude has shown that he is a player. It appears that Bayern Munich are poised to win the Ribery sweepstakes if you are to believe what they have posted on their own Web site, but can you really believe anything you read on the Web these days? As you may suspect, there tons of additional Bundesliga transfer news.

You know that Barcelona would love nothing more than to get their golden hands on Arsenal’s Thierry Henry. Today it was AC Milan who stepped up to the plate to announce that they wouldn’t mind having TH14 on their side either, especially since Alberto Gilardino couldn’t be elected dog catcher in Milan. I have a hard time picturing Henry with anyone but Arsenal, but as they taught me in cliché school, anything is possible.

Barcelona forward Javier Saviola is a stud and a half, and as a result he is also coveted by many. Included in that mix apparently are Real Madrid who would like to add the Argentine into their fold. Saviola’s contract expires at the end of this season and in the past few days I’ve seen him linked to Manchester United, Inter Milan, Juventus, and my Sunday league team, which could really need some offensive help this year.

You’ve heard that Manchester United are interested in Nicolas Anelka. But you haven’t heard that from Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside who speaks the truth when he says that the Red Devils, like many of us, aren’t in love with Anelka.

Joey Barton has more lives than a cat. The Manchester City thug is almost certainly going to West Ham, I mean Newcastle, but he won’t be playing for Celtic.

West Ham, Tottenham and others are evidently interested in Andrew Johnson, but Everton have told them to step back from the window and to keep their hands to themselves.

This one has to be true. Luis Figo is desperate to join Tottenham. But wait, I’m confused. I thought he said he would quit football instead of leaving Inter Milan. Let’s call it even and bring back those Figo to MLS rumors, ok?

When Saviola doesn’t score he tends to look pretty worthless, but then every third game or so he’ll score a classy goal and make you think twice. Kind of Inzaghi-esque in that way. I don’t think he’s technically a good fit for Barca since they only play one up top and they like for all their guys to be good passers, but he certainly could provide value to most top teams.

Am I the only Barca fan who would rather keep Eto’o then have Henry? No disrespect meant to him, as he is undoubtedly fabulous, but Eto’o has proven 1) that he can score tons of goals in Spain and 2) that he fits into the Barca system.

Even the idea of simply adding Henry seems a bit troublesome (assuming that Ronaldinho doesn’t leave). He would have to start alongside Ronnie and Eto’o. What would we do with Messi and Giuly, then?

Sorry, that got a bit long.

i still hope henry stays at arsenal. but it seems that adebayor is going up the ladder and lets face it, henry is getting old (i love the guy by the way). and i hope to dear god that he’s not moving to milan. my heart’s still broken after that world cup final.
